Contract: Permanent – Full Time – 35 hours

Salary: £37,851 – £40,506 (PO4)

Location: Town Hall Extension. WC1H 8NP

Team: Building Control

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Structural Specialist to join Camden Council’s Building Control Team. We have recently gone through a process of change to redefine service delivery in terms of quality, value for money, health and safety management and secure the highest possible stakeholder satisfaction across all our services.

As the Structural Specialist you will be responsible for providing technical structural engineering advice and assistance to Head of Service and staff in line with the appraisal of structural calculations, adequacy of foundations and construction details.

You will investigate and appraise the structural adequacy of buildings and structures, including temporary and dangerous structures and those submitted under the Building Control legislation – this includes structures which are out of the ordinary and those involving new or specialist materials, design concepts, fabrication and construction methods.

You will also be required to make site inspections and advise on applications for dispensation of the structural requirements of the Building Regulations. Key Requirements

Knowledge/Qualifications:

  • Member of an appropriate professional body (RICS,CIOB, ABE or Ceng)
  • Chartered engineer with “post charter” experience or an Incorporated Engineer with post IEng/TEng experience
  • Extensive experience in building control requirements

Skills:

  • Ability to carry out site inspections of all types of building work in all stages of construction
  • Ability to prioritise and take responsibility for workloads to ensure deadlines and targets are met
  • Strong Communication skills at all levels
  • Good team player with the ability to show leadership skills

Experience:

  • Experience in appraising or designing complex structures
