At Surrey County Council, the Chief Executive’s Office lies at the heart of the County Council’s strategic decision-making and is working towards the vision of enabling and assisting Surrey to deliver the most effective and efficient services to residents. One of the ways we are doing this is by developing and providing a data and information portal called Surrey-i. The Surrey-i portal is a key tool for the County Council and its partners to develop a greater understanding of the population they serve, ensure robust evidence supports decision-making and signifies a move within Surrey towards greater data sharing, openness and transparency.

A data portal of course, is only as good as the data it holds and, to help drive and support the next stage of Surrey-i’s development, we are looking for a data administrator who will be responsible for uploading datasets into Surrey-i, dataset administration and liaising with data owners. Under the supervision of the Research Manager, this will involve helping identify data for uploading, accessing data, uploading data, quality assuring datasets and ensuring they are maintained and updated as needed.

Working on Surrey-i would mean joining a small, highly motivated, experienced and ambitious team. To be successful with your application, you will need to demonstrate a good understanding of datasets and dataset administration. You will need to have excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and an excellent level of IT literacy (including ability to manipulate spreadsheets, like Excel). In addition, you will need the ability to prioritise workflow and to work on your own initiative. Also, you will have good numerical skills, accompanied by an attention to detail, a commitment to quality output and be able to demonstrate that you are able to identify project risks and be able to take a proactive approach to mitigating such risks. Previous experience in dataset administration role, including in the manipulation and extraction of statistical and disaggregated data, would be an advantage.

Please note that applicants will be required to complete relevant assessment tests prior to interview as part of the selection process for this role.

If you think you have what we are looking for and want to contribute to a team utterly committed to helping deliver world class public services – we look forward to hearing from you!

For an informal discussion about this role, please call David Teeman on 020 8541 9634.

Interview dates: 17th & 18th October 2012.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice, reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under-represented groups.
