A Teacher wanted to make foster care count for more.Multi-dimensional Treatment Foster Care in England (MTFCE) is an exciting initiative that will enable a number of young people with challenging behaviour to benefit from specialist foster placements. Offering ‘wrap-around’ care, it will deliver high levels of support, helping them to develop better relationship and life skills.Multi-dimensional Treatment Foster Care is a nationally led, but locally implemented project aimed at improving outcomes for children looked after, aged between 10-16 years.

The purpose of the role is to:

  • ensure that all young people with Directions’ carers are placed in mainstream or special school or, where this is not possible, within an appropriate alternative educational setting
  • ensure that the young person’s educational needs are assessed and met within the school or develop collaborative relationships with relevant schools
  • negotiate for places for young people coming into the programme
  • ensure that the young person’s strengths and abilities are fully assessed and to facilitate the education placement
  • advise the schools of the philosophy and aims of the model of behaviourally based ‘wrap around’ approach of MTFCE and of the support provided in the programme for young people and the desired contribution from the school in order to achieve the best outcomes
  • provide direct education support to the young person, as needed.
