Rochford District Council is seeking to develop its Building Control service and we are looking for a highly motivated individual with considerable experience in Building Control to assist its progress. We are seeking someone with experience of complex building regulation applications and have a proven ability to facilitate and positively progress projects. A track record in how to market the service and develop new business would also be desirable.

As post-holder you will supervise and monitor the Building Control team in order to ensure that an effective and efficient service is provided that will meet the Council’s statutory responsibilities, performance management standards and ensure that the service is accountable and responsive to feedback. You will have direct line management responsibilities for a number of staff as well as handling a personal caseload of high profile cases.

You will have a detailed knowledge of legislation and the skill to apply it to practical situations. Additionally, you will engage with customers on a human level, ensuring that complex or difficult matters are explained in a polite and professional way. Above all you will have the drive, commitment and passion to win customers’ trust to ensure they return to use our services again. You will also be familiar and comfortable liaising with elected Members and presenting items, related to the services to Committees, as and when necessary.

It is important that you are keen to embrace new technology and you will be expected to carry out some out of hours working. You will hold membership of RICS, CABE or COIB (or be eligible to). You will have a driving licence and daily access to a car.

If you feel that you would relish the opportunity and challenge to develop and shape a modern Building Control service to deliver high quality customer service and results, we would very much like to hear from you.
