The current postholder is transferring to another area of Children’s services, having been in this position for 8 years. Our West Area Locality Team deals with longer term work with children and families. The team undertakes pre-birth assessments on existing open cases, Core Assessments, S47 child protection enquires, Initial and Review child protection conferences, core groups, legal planning meetings, Team around the Child meetings, and court work. As we are implementing the Signs of Safety Framework across our service, it also provides the opportunity to enable staff, families, children and young people to fully engage in assessment and planning.

You’ll be part of a supportive environment, with professional development a key priority throughout the service. Recent Ofsted Inspection feedback was that they found the team child focused, workers morale was high, and they were made to feel welcome – even more importantly, they were clear that children were safe. Reading is a good place to work. The people are enthusiastic, forward thinking and always looking for ways to improve practice.

So it’s over to you: a proven manager with first-rate operational decision-making and performance management skills. You’re innovative, creative and willing to challenge people’s thinking as you constantly look for ways to improve the way things are done. What’s more, you’ll bring experience of supervision, critical risk analysis and risk management to the post.
