Mole Valley District Council is looking to recruit a full time Web Editor. This is a new role in the Council, reporting into the Communications team, but also working closely with the new Customer Service Unit.

Acting as moderator for the sites as well as Editor, there will be responsibility for the day to day content management of the Council’s and Dorking Halls’ web site as well as involvement in the management of other Council web sites. The first priority will be to re-design the existing Council’s website, working as part of a small internal project team.

Part of the Council’s strategy for improving customer service, reducing cost and building business at the Halls, is to drive people to use the web sites both for general information and for business. As such it is important that the information on the sites is maintained in an appropriate and timely fashion. Indeed this will be the key to success.

The content moderator is responsible for checking the suitability of any page prior to it being published to the website. The successful candidate must be able to consider the customer’s needs when writing or migrating content and must ensure that consideration is given to all our customers when moderating content. There will also be responsibility for creating and maintaining accessibility standards in all aspects of the sites.

The Editor liaises with the appointed Web Champions in each Service area and content authors on the best way to present content, provide constructive feedback and reject content which is not considered suitable. The appointee will need to ensure compliance with the Council’s web standards including adherence to Plain English, accessibility and above all, making sure the Council’s sites are completely customer friendly.

A detailed understanding of the content management system, GOSS iCM would be ideal, though training can be provided.
