Tree Technical Assistant

The Town Planning Division needs an enthusiastic, committed and motivated person to help protect and enhance Elmbridge’s sylvan environment. The Borough has over 1000 Tree Preservation Orders, 24 conservation areas, and a number of Ancient Woodlands.

You will

  • provide efficient and effective office based administrative and technical support primarily to the Tree Section, and also occasionally to the Landscape and Heritage Section
  • respond to basic inquiries about tree matters from the general public, local councillors, officers, agents and others
  • assist the tree officers in processing planning consultations and tree applications and notices, and in the preparation and serving of TPOs, enforcement notices, committee reports and appeal statements

You will need to able to:

  • communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and deal with a variety of people in a calm, professional and polite manner
  • have a working knowledge of Microsoft office IT systems
  • work in a well-organised manner but to have flexibility within a team framework and be able to handle conflicting demands and priorities

What we need from you:

  • you should have a good level of education to GSCE and/or A level standard
  • previous experience of working in an office environment, experience of local government or a planning environment, and an interest in trees and the natural environment is not essential but is an advantage
  • good IT and organisational skills
