Overview: Ridgeway Shared Services Partnership provide financial services to the Vale of White Horse based in Abingdon and South Oxfordshire District Council based in Crowmarsh Gifford, Oxfordshire.

The Accountancy Team is comprised of three smaller teams. One of the accountancy teams is based at Abingdon and another at Crowmarsh. The technical team is split between the two sites supporting both authorities.

This vacancy is in the accountancy team based in Abingdon although the officer may be required to work on occasion from Crowmarsh subject to operational demands. The team manage the Council’s budgets – through budget setting, monitoring and closedown to Statement of Accounts.

Whilst the new team member will be based in Abingdon working for Vale of White Horse District Council they will be employed by South Oxfordshire District Council. Job Description:

• Preparation of information for budget setting, monitoring and closing the accounts.
• Assistance with the production of specific sections within the Statement of Accounts.
• Provision of financial support and advice to Heads of Service/Strategic Directors and officers within the organisation.
• Maintenance of the accuracy of the Council’s ledger system in accordance with the structure and activities of the Council.
• Reconciliation of data between the Council’s ledger and external IT systems.
• Ad hoc financial project work e.g. assessing the implications of service proposals within committee reports and best value review of services.

Person Specification:

• A minimum of AAT qualified or CCAB part qualified. Supporting the completion of qualifications would be considered.
• Experience of preparing detailed financial analysis and of working through complex financial accounting calculations.
• A competent user of financial management systems and an experienced user of standard software packages e.g. Excel.
• Attention to detail and ability to produce financial information with clarity and accuracy.
• Confidence to represent finance in meetings with budget holders and heads of service level.
• Ability to manage workload and prioritise tasks
