Do you enjoy helping people, especially tracing their family tree? Could you lead a team working with groups of adults and school children promoting the library’s IT and local history resources? Then this is the job for you.

The vacancy for Team Leader at Keighley Local Studies Library is an ideal opportunity to learn about a different aspect of the service and involves developing an increasingly popular and well established local and family history department as the internet plays an ever larger part in research into people’s ancestry and local surroundings. Local history is also part of the national curriculum and school classes use the library resources to supplement their own. Keighley archives are also held by the library and are another area which needs promoting. The department is developing as an IT learning centre and there are opportunities for leading this initiative.

You will be helping to lead a small team of Customer Support Assistants in providing an excellent service to customers and will promote the use of the library in the community. You will be monitoring and appraising the work of staff, assisting in their selection and training, as well as working with customers yourself. You will be responsible for all aspects of the day to day running of the library including staff rotas, stock handling, staff communication, dealing with cash, health and safety and ensuring the security of the building where appropriate.

You will have at least 1 year’s experience as a library or information assistant in a public department within the last 5 years, and will have 4 GCSEs at A-C level or an equivalent qualification. You will be a good communicator, able to motivate and lead other staff and have an enthusiasm for developing the library service into the future. You will be expected to work 2 evenings until 7pm and alternate Saturdays.
