Surrey Fire and Rescue Service keeps our communities safe 24 hours a day. In this uniquely challenging and rewarding role, you will make a personal contribution towards the provision of safe dependable vehicles and equipment maintained to the highest standards.
All vehicles and equipment are subject to vigorous testing and maintenance under the terms of the National Fire Service standards. Exercising your professional judgement, and considering the limits of the budget, you will take decisions that ensures vehicles and equipment are maintained to the highest safety standard. Delivering professional advice and guidance, you will enjoy responsibility for managing specific contractors, a small technical team and projects. You will also be required to attend serious incidents, liaise and meet with the police and other agencies and provide an out-of-hours service, remaining in telephone 24 hour contact with the service for 26 weeks a year.
As this is a development role, you will be released from duty to achieve the necessary qualifications and specialist knowledge. Variety is guaranteed, and the post provides an excellent step towards management, for a qualified LGV technician with supervisory experience, in a vehicle workshop, and knowledge of vehicle component stock control. You will need to have the confidence and resilience to make and implement difficult and challenging decisions, and the communication and influencing skills to gain agreement, and to lead effectively. You will be required to handle multiple tasks efficiently, and demonstrate proficiency in the use of IT.
