Working within the Benefits Assessment Team, an ideal opportunity has arisen for two experienced Benefits Assessment Officers to join the Woking Borough Council team. The main duties include:

•To check details of each benefit claim form, ensuring the claim complies with the Verification Framework and has been completed correctly. Obtain further information to support the claim, and input all necessary information into the computer system. Ensure entitlement to benefit is reasonable and issue any entitlement letters.

•Conduct office interviews and deal promptly and courteously with all forms of communication

•Ensure decisions and procedures are in accordance with statutory legislation, case law and Council policy, maintaining and prioritising the workload.

•Liaise with the Department for Work and Pensions, Employment Services, Citizen’s Advice Bureau and other external organisations as required.

•Maintain effective liaison with other sections and service areas

•Make occasional visits to the applicant at home where deemed necessary

Candidates should have experience in a Local Authority, ideally with a sound knowledge of housing benefits and council tax benefits. Excellent communication skills required, both verbal and written; and ability to work to deadlines and standards.
