Surrey County Council is the fifth largest Council in the UK and at the last census there were 240,299 children living in our 11 districts. There is a vibrant early education and childcare sector in Surrey and our Early Years and Childcare Service (EYCS) is at the forefront of this, recently reviewing its structure to meet the requirements of the 10 year Childcare Strategy (Every Child Counts) and the Childcare Act of 2006. This has led to a period of expansion and the following roles represent a unique opportunity to get involved with a team renowned for innovation and results.

Assessing and supporting non-maintained practitioners, you’ll help to develop and maintain high quality, inclusive early years education across our County.

Joining our successful and rapidly expanding team, you’ll support and work in partnership with pre-school practitioners, visiting them on-site and observing their delivery of the Foundation Stage curriculum.

Offering advice and guidance, you’ll share your knowledge and skills, delivering results driven training, as well as developing resource materials relating to both the curriculum and inclusive education. You’ll actively promote best practice too, working closely with practitioners or organisations to implement action plans aimed at addressing identified areas for development. In short, you’ll provide all of the advice, information and support needed to give young people, including those with additional needs, the best possible start in life.

As a qualified teacher, you’ll have the ability to manage and assess the early years curriculum, develop training and run effective workshops. On top of excellent relationship building skills, a full driving licence and access to a car is also essential.

An enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure check will be required for this role.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Anne James on 01372 833 824 or Liz Cross on 01372 833 801.

Interview date: 11 February 2009.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Surrey County Council particularly welcomes applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
