Islington Neighbourhood Crime and Justice Co-ordinator

Islington has been chosen by the Home Office as a pioneer borough to develop local work on increasing residents’ knowledge, engagement and confidence in the criminal justice system. The programme builds on key recommendations highlighted in Louise Casey’s review, “Engaging Communities in Fighting Crime” and includes funding to recruit a new job within the community safety partnerships unit.

The post holder will ensure criminal justice services offered to the public by a variety of agencies (Safer Neighbourhood and other police teams, Probation, Court services, various council departments and housing providers) are working more effectively together and are communicating to local residents what they are doing in a clear and relevant manner.

This will involve providing up-to-date information to local people about crime in their area and what preventative and direct action the police, council and other partners have taken to address this. It will require communicating with local people through regular neighbourhood policing public meetings, quarterly bulletins/leaflets, community events, local media, online and advertising. It will also mean ensuring that local people are aware of what they have a right to expect from their local criminal justice services and feel supported when they wish to complain about local provision or action tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Islington encourages applications from local residents and is offering the option of a secondment to applicants from Islington’s voluntary sector agencies.

The post is based in the Town Hall, Upper St, Islington.

Closing Date: 2 February 2009
Interviews: 12 February 2009
