Planning Policy Sandwich Year Programme
One year fixed term starting 1 August 2009
Are you currently on a sandwich degree course in Planning, Geography, Architecture, Urban design, Environmental Science or a related subject?
Would you like experience in a borough that offers some of the most exciting planning opportunities in the country?
Welwyn Hatfield has been identified as a Growth Point and Key Centre for Development and Change involving substantial housing and employment growth. The Planning Policy team at Welwyn Hatfield council offers a year’s placement giving practical experience in the planning system.
You would be involved in a wide variety of work including:
• Work on the Core Strategy and Site Allocations Development Plan Documents
• Public consultation events and analysis
• Developing the baseline evidence for the borough, developing targets and indicators for the Local Development Framework
• Assist with monitoring of existing district plan polices, including site surveys and analysis of data
• Review of the Green Belt
• Work connected with regional planning
• Work on Supplementary Planning Documents for specific sites, including public consultation.
Some experience of GIS would also be useful.
The Council is unfortunately not able to assist with housing costs for the planning year out student. Welwyn Hatfield has a good supply of accommodation available for rent due to the presence of the University of Hertfordshire and the proximity of London.
