Are you interested in working directly with families and using your skills to help and support young people aged twelve to eighteen that are experiencing family breakdown or at risk of being permanently excluded from school?

The Family Solutions team is a new initiative within Surrey and brings together health, education and social care disciplines. The team employs a variety of therapeutic skills and practical interventions to help families increase their resilience and emotional literacy build on their strengths and commit to change.

The team will respond quickly to crises, complete an Information and Observation Assessment Period and then undertake a twelve-week intensive intervention that meets the individual needs of the family. Follow up sessions are then available to help families sustain the changes that they have made.

We are looking for qualified social workers with some experience of therapeutic or counselling skills that enjoy working creatively with young people. You should have an up-to-date knowledge of child development and attachment, an ability to quickly build trust and rapport and an understanding of the impact of major life events on young people’s lives.

We will offer you a personal development programme, regular supervision and appraisal, an extensive work-based training programme and a flexible benefits scheme.

Please note, there are two rounds of interviews on the 9th September and 9th October, any early applicants may be included in the first round of interviews in September, if not, they will be in the October interviews.

An enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and POCA check will be required for this role.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Maralyn Cherrett on 01483 517105.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
