Job summary
DBS was established under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 on 1 December 2012, operating from two sites, Liverpool and Darlington. We operate on behalf of government delivering Disclosure functions in England, Wales, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, and Barring functions for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We operate in the complex world of safeguarding alongside our multi agency partners. Safeguarding means protecting people’s health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.
We provide a service that enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make better informed, safer recruitment and other decisions. We do this by providing information to enable them to determine whether individuals are unsuitable or unable to undertake certain work, particularly with occupations involving regular contact with vulnerable groups, including children.

Job description
You will be part of a high performing Security team which ensures the secure delivery and operation of the technology and online products that underpin our citizen facing Services. This is an exciting time to join the organisation at the start of an ambitious change journey as we build our Digital Data and Technology (DDaT) capabilities that will design, build and operate services that are critical to our vision to make recruitment safer by providing outstanding quality of service to all our customers and partners.
The post holder will report to the Operational Security Manager and be responsible for the management of 2 AOs. The role plays an integral part in identifying and ensuring DBS complies with policies and procedures issued by DBS and the wider HO. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day physical security for DBS Sites and the monitoring of various DBS and supplier systems.
As a member of the DBS Security team, you will provide Security support and advice on a number of areas including physical, IT and personnel Security. You will be required to develop strong links to DBS colleagues, Suppliers and other government departments and be able to respond quickly and accurately to requests for urgent and complex information. You will need to have strong organisational skills and be able to manage your own time effectively. The role will also involve working closely with a key suppliers, cyber risk leads, the Data Protection team .You will also be responsible for the Security Teams SharePoint and intranet sites, and reviewing and drafting appropriate security policies. The job role will also require regular access to DBS sites sometimes outside of core hours. Some overnight stays will also be required when supporting the Operational Security Manager on site visits.
Corporate Duties:
• Manage the Security Team inbox, ensuring prompt responses while delivering clear, professional advice to DBS and suppliers through digital and face-to-face engagement.
• Responsible for maintaining the team document and template library including version control, templates, and associated links
• Supporting line manager (HEO) in regular and ad-hoc security initiatives/meetings
• Reviewing operational documents and providing comment from a security perspective.
• Overseeing the security clearance process, liaising with Home Office Security teams and suppliers.
• Overseeing the issue of security passes, access to sensitive areas and the clearance requirements of unescorted visitors.
• Managing compliance with key Information Assurance Frameworks such as the Supplier Assurance framework, and internal assurance frameworks, producing accurate and detailed reports on a regular and ad-hoc basis
• Manage the third-party supplier site audit schedule, while supporting the HEO. The role requires occasional overnight stays.
• Management, development, and delivery of DBS’s Security compliance activities e.g., access assurance checks, email monitoring and file transfer. Responsible for any escalation activity as necessary
• Develop and deliver operational and information security reporting, utilising a range of inputs and tools including Supplier data.
• Responsible for the management of 2 AO’S providing input into the PDR process and regular meetings, supporting development and providing support
• Complete compliance activities to a high standard, proactively identifying issues and escalating them when necessary.
