Job summary
This post reports to the Senior Commercial Manager and has line management of 2 Executive Officer and 2 Team Support staff. The role will lead on all retail matters within Cadw, developing an improved and more profitable offer to ensure the goods and services Cadw provides are commercially viable and all systems are compliant and efficient.Job description
The post holder will oversee the team in the operation of retail across all sites, including all sales analysis, logistics of stock control and financial reports and will devise and implement a Retail Strategy for Cadw.
This role will take responsibility for growing retail income for Cadw by at least 5% year on year in line with Departmental targets. The post will also play an integral part in the management of the EPoS system introduced in 2021. A strong working knowledge and experience of retail in the heritage sector would be an advantage to reflect the diverse needs of multiple sites.
Person specification
- Managing the development and procurement of goods for resale at Cadw’s 19 staffed sites.
- Monitoring £1.3m budget spend and issuing spend forecasts, with the target to generate minimum £2.5 million retail income per year.
- Managing and delivering new income generating activities such as pop-up shops, new ranges e.g. Christmas range, online shop functionality, high end Cadw Collection range, vending machines and coffee machines.
- Meeting with suppliers, reviewing ranges, terms, developing new products and responding to product trends.
- Attending circa 5 UK trade shows per year to keep up with trends and ensure Cadw retail offer responds to customer needs.
- Devising and managing a new online shop offer and assessing systems and processes to maximise income.
- Overseeing visual merchandising guides to ensure all outlets are presented with consistency and quality, developing systems to monitor and improve.
- Undertaking Welsh Government procurement exercises, write tenders and manage supplier contracts to ensure they meet desired outcomes.
- Managing and prioritising team workload – daily/weekly as required for team of up to 6 staff.
- Contributing to specific project boards, ongoing review and improvement of current EPoS system functions and implementation of Retail Strategy.
- Producing management reports for Senior Executive Team and Board, analysing data for accurate planning and attending meetings (Inter-branch, Branch, Comms & PR).
- Regular liaison with Cadw’s sites and peer organisations so significant experience is required of working in retail across multiple sites, ideally with experience of the heritage sector and Welsh Government processes would be an advantage.
- Sound commercial awareness and knowledge of financial and business practices is necessary e.g. reporting on RoI, regular monitoring and adapting of plans to ensure income targets are reached, understanding of EPoS systems.
- Lead on the new Cadw Collection range and well as any new Cadw ranges.
