The vacancy

The Peabody Academy plays a central role in developing our people through high-quality apprenticeship delivery as an employer-provider. With a strong ambition to become a main provider and extend our impact across the housing sector and beyond, we are seeking a Board member who can bring expertise, strategic challenge and sound governance to support our continued growth and maturity.

What we’re looking for:

  • Do you have experience of leading apprenticeship provision in an organisation?
  • Are you passionate about setting overall policy, defining goals and objectives?
  • Are you able to provide visionary input to our Academy Board, which will underpin stability, growth and development?

If so, this role is perfect for you!

A bit about the role:

As a Member of Academy Board, you will contribute actively to the Academy Board’s role in determining and monitoring the Academy’s strategic direction, setting overall policy, and ensuring good governance. With other Academy Board members, ensure a constructive working relationship with members of the Academy management team and provide them with challenge, advice, counsel and support.

Some of the key results for the role include:

  • To ensure that the Academy operates in accordance with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements and guidance, governing documents, and governance best practice.
  • To ensure that the Academy uses its resources effectively and exclusively in pursuance of Peabody’s charitable objects.
  • To uphold the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence in Peabody.
  • To always act in the best interests of Peabody, its beneficiaries and future beneficiaries.
  • To actively participate in the Academy Board’s affairs: scrutinising Academy Board papers and/ or reports, determining the Academy's strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals and objectives, evaluating opportunities and risks, and monitoring performance

A bit about us:

Peabody is one of the UK’s oldest not-for-profit housing associations, established more than 160 years ago. We are responsible for more than 109,000 homes and support around 220,000 residents across London and the Home Counties, alongside around 20,000 care and support customers. Our purpose is to help people flourish and we are getting closer to residents through a local approach. We are focused on delivering a responsive and accessible repairs service, investing in existing homes so they are safe and well maintained, and delivering retrofit projects that make thousands of homes more energy efficient. We also work with councils and communities to promote economic inclusion, tackle inequality and poverty, and prioritise wellbeing.

The Peabody Academy was established in March 2023 as an employer-provider and is responsible for apprenticeships for colleagues across the organisation, alongside learning and development and compliance training for the wider workforce.
