Redcar & Cleveland, as a borough, has a bit of everything, at the one end being the welcome to North Yorkshire and the moors, at the other being at the economic centre of Tees Valley, with beautiful coastline sandwiched in between.

What makes the area what it is though, is the 136,500 people who live here and make it their home. It is the council’s job, alongside partners, to provide vital public services which make a difference to these people.

And so, we are pleased to be recruiting to two important Accountant – Directorate Support roles within our team.

These positions offer an exciting opportunity to play a meaningful role in supporting the delivery of key Council priorities, ensuring that our financial resources are managed effectively, sustainably, and in a way that delivers the best outcomes for our communities.

Our Finance Service is at the heart of the Council’s decision-making. We work closely with colleagues across all directorates to provide high-quality financial advice, robust financial planning, and clear, accurate reporting.

Whether supporting frontline services or helping shape long-term strategy, our focus is on enabling informed decisions and delivering value for money.

Alongside this, our Finance Service is a close-knit team of around 40 professionals, structured across five key service areas, working collaboratively to support every part of the Council. Despite the breadth of services we deliver, we pride ourselves on maintaining a strong ‘one team’ culture, where colleagues know each other, support one another, and work together to solve complex challenges.

The Council is undertaking a major project to implement a new Enterprise Resource Planning system over the next 18 months, and this has created the need to bring additional capacity into the team.

The Accountant – Directorate Support roles will be for a fixed-term of 2 years and will be integral to ensuring continuation of strong financial management across the Council’s services. One role will be focuses on Financial Managment activities and the other on more Systems activites.

Both roles will work closely with budget holders and senior officers, providing financial analysis, supporting budget monitoring, and contributing to business cases, playing a key role in shaping financial processes and reporting.

For the Accountant – Directorate Support role, we are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working within a local government finance environment and can bring a strong understanding of supporting Council services.

Your experience could have been gained across a range of service areas, including highways, waste and neighbourhoods, resources, IT, HR, children’s or adults’ services, or elsewhere within a local authority.

What is most important is your ability to work confidently with services, provide effective financial support and advice, and operate with a good degree of independence.

Alongside this systems focus, you will remain a hands-on accountant, supporting services with budget monitoring, management accounting and wider financial advice.
