Job summary

The Pesticide Operational Support Team (POST), supports the Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) in the processing and delivering of pesticide authorisations. The team is an operational delivery team that is responsible for processes for incoming applications, and the processing and issuing of all pesticide authorisations.

This role will sit within the Applications Team function of POST and will provide essential operational support across several critical processes. The postholder will be responsible for managing the Applications inbox on a rotational basis, registering incoming applications, supporting invoicing processes, as well as support to issuing of applications as required.

Working Pattern

Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week across a minimum of 4 days.

Job description

This is a dynamic and flexible role, which means that the postholder will have opportunities to develop in several functions of the team and move seamlessly across these functions as required.

As an Administrative Support Officer your core responsibilities will include:

  • You will be responsible for the receipt of applications, authorisation processing, and issuing invoices.
  • You will be responsible for the management of the applications mailbox on a rotational basis.
  • You will provide administrative support for Maximum Residue Level publications, issuing of adjuvant authorisations, and CRD’s Annual Charge.
  • You will respond to telephone and written enquiries, requests for advice from colleagues in CRD, members of public, and other organisations.
  • You will be involved in general administrative duties and other work as directed by the team leader.

Essential Skills and Criteria

  • A team player with good collaboration skills, with experience of working within a close team
  • Good communication skills to enable effective verbal and written correspondence with internal and external stakeholders
  • Good organisational skills, to work within a fast-paced environment, with strict deadlines, competing priorities and ensuring a quality service is provided.
  • You must have a working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software packages (Word, Excel and Outlook)

There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. The arrangements will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths and Experience.

Upon submitting your short application form, you will be invited to complete a Civil Service Verbal Test.

Please complete the online test as soon as possible, within 24-48 hours is recommended, to allow time to complete your full application.

If you successfully pass the test, you will then be invited to complete the final stage of your application. You must complete your full application form and online tests by 20th April 2026. If you fail to complete the online test and full application form before the deadline, your application will be withdrawn.

If you successfully pass the tests, you will be invited to the second stage of the application where you will be asked to submit a personal statement of up to 500 words which demonstrates how you meet the essential skills and criteria listed within the person specification. You will also be asked to submit a 250 word statement towards the behaviour delivering at pace.

Sift Information

The sift is due to take place from the week commencing 20th April 2026, where you will be assessed on your personal statement and the Delivering at Pace behaviour.

Interview Information

Interviews will take place from week commencing 11th May 2026 and week commencing 18th May 2026 .You will be assessed on strengths and your experience.
