Job Description

To be a role model for and support the delivery of competent and confident professional practice within a social work team.

Requirements

The effective management of caseloads, the delivery of cost-effective interventions and the achievement of all relevant statutory requirements and department policies, standards and guidelines. To introduce and support the development of evidence based practice.

To lead on the improvement of ICT systems on behalf of Practitioners.

To mentor and coach professional staff and peers including those less experienced and newly qualified social workers, ensuring a focus on evidence-informed practice.

To be responsible for practice audits within teams, working together with other advanced practitioners, consultant practitioners and the Performance and Quality Team.

To contribute to practice, policy and procedure improvements and developments through contribution of expert knowledge.

Responsibilities

The effective management of caseloads, the delivery of cost-effective interventions and the achievements of all relevant statutory requirements and department policies, standards and guidelines. To introduce and support the development of evidence based practice.

To hold a number of complex cases within the team.

Working with a high degree of personal accountability and discretion (case work).

To ensure that vulnerable adults receive appropriate services in response to assessed need.

Leading team discussions about evidence informed practice issues as they affect professional practice.

Ensure that personal professional practice is of consistently high standard across assessment planning, the intervention and review.

To link with health staff and those from other organisations to provide a coherent service to vulnerable adults.

To lead on the improvement of ICT systems on behalf of Practitioners.

To be the practice ICT lead, ensuring that system developments reflect best practice and promote the use of the electronic social care record.

To mentor and coach professional staff and peers including those less experienced and newly qualified social workers, ensuring a focus on evidence-informed practice.

To authorise resource allocation ( Individual Budgets) and Support Plans at the request or direction of the Team Manager, within defined levels of delegations.

To assist with recruitment and selection of staff.

To act as an adviser to the team providing expert advice and guidance at the request or direction of the Team Manager or others.

To manage social work students or other professional students as appropriate.

Provide consultation and development in areas of social care staff acquiring skills. Being proactive in employee development.

Take part in delivery of training across Directorate.

Mentoring less experienced staff in full awareness of the significant impact you are having on shaping the current and future practice of individuals and where necessary challenging poor practice.

Providing peer support and supervision for social workers/CCO in order to ensure delivery of competent and confident professional practice.

To be responsible for practice audits within teams, working together with other advanced practitioners and the Performance and Quality Team.

Contribute to strategic developments. Support embedding of excellent practice across Moray.

Within case work – responsible for sharing and developing learning of other staff. Lead role in researching and developing evidence based practice and representing team at meetings.

Participate in formulations of new initiatives and policy across Directorate as appropriate.

To contribute to practice, policy and procedure improvements and developments through contribution of expert knowledge.

Conduct or support the use of practice audit, including the defined Moray Quality Assurance Tool.

Feedback to individual practitioners on the results of practice audit and support the development of individual improvement plans and actions arising from practice audit.

Health & Safety

To take reasonable care for the health and safety of self, other staff and service users as defined by Council policy and other relevant documentation and training.

To co-operate with the Council in ensuring that health and safety duties are complied with.

The Individual

Considerable experience as a qualified Social Worker

Excellent knowledge of legislation, policies and practices associated with Community Care.

Experience of successfully managing a varied and complex caseload.

Professional qualification in Social Work and registration with SSSC.

Evidence of continuing professional development.

Ability to negotiate and liaise effectively.

Ability to reconcile demands and wishes against financial processes.

Ability to work flexibly and to meet demands of service.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to present complex information to colleagues.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to support and monitor colleagues.

You will be expected to travel efficiently between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car.

Organised and able to manage competing priorities.

Desirable:

Experience of supervising students.

Experience of multi-disciplinary working.

Practice Teacher award.

Mental Health Officer qualification.

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

Starting Salary: £52,478.40

£27.84 per hour, 36.25 hours per week
