Soulbury Pay Scale 11-14 (£57,297- £61,679) plus Outer London Weighting (£2509)
The London Borough of Havering has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and highly skilled Qualified Teacher of Vision Impairment (QTVI) to join our professional, friendly and enthusiastic Physical and Sensory Support Team within the SEND Education Support Service.
We welcome applications from teachers who are either Qualified Teachers of Vision Impairment (QTVI) or experienced teachers with substantial knowledge and interest in special educational needs, who would be willing to undertake training as a Qualified Teacher of Vision Impairment (QTVI).
The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary Physical and Sensory Support Team working as part of a group of specialist teachers and other professionals across a range of educational settings, schools and homes on a peripatetic basis. The role involves working with babies, children, young people and their families from birth to 25 years.
This will include:
· supporting parents to understand the implications of their child’s vision impairment
· supporting school aged children in educational settings
· liaising with other relevant agencies
· contributing to EHCP requests and report writing
· delivering vision impairment training
The Advisory Teacher with Vision Impairment (QTVI) will have:
- a specialist, mandatory qualification in teaching children with Vision Impairment(QTVI) or have substantial knowledge and experience in the field of special educational needs and would be willing to undertake training leading to Qualified Teacher of Vision Impairment (QTVI) status
- manage an individual caseload of children/young people aged 0-25 with vision impairment with ability to prioritise and manage competing demands
- excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to be well organised, work independently and work to deadlines
- provide specialist teaching, advice and support to children/young people with vision impairment, their families, schools and settings across Havering, to ensure the educational implications of their vision impairment is understood and effectively managed
- plan and deliver specialist training to staff in settings attended by children/young people on caseload
- a commitment to providing children, young people and their families with balanced, unbiased advice to enable them to make informed choices
- the ability to build strong working relationships which are collaborative in nature and able to use their professional expertise to improve outcomes for children with vision impairment
- an understanding of and commitment to inclusive education and an ability to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team
- an understanding of the role of Braille
- an interest and skills in developing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT) to support access to communication and learning
- work in close partnership with children/young people, their families, staff in education settings, paediatrician, ophthalmology, speech and language therapists and all local authority SEND services to ensure high quality, accurate, impartial, specialist information is used to inform decision making
- participate in the development of the policies and practices of the SEND Support Service and keep abreast of developments in education, SEND and vision impairment
- maintain accurate and up to date records, writing specialist reports to inform planning (including EHCPs) and specialist provision for children/young people with vision impairment

Salary range
- £57,297 - £61,679 per year
