
AI Support Officer
Join us as an AI Support Officer
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and forward‑thinking AI Support Officer to help drive the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence technologies, including Microsoft 365 Copilot across Portsmouth City Council.
This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of digital transformation, empowering staff to use AI tools effectively and ensuring they are adopted safely, ethically, and in line with our strategic goals. Responsibilities
- Support staff with AI tools, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, and resolve complex queries.
- Create clear guidance, prompt libraries, and resources to help users work confidently with AI.
- Work with IT and service teams to integrate AI into everyday processes.
- Deliver engaging AI training sessions and develop accessible learning materials.
- Help build a network of AI Champions and support organisation‑wide AI skills development.
- Monitor AI usage to identify challenges and opportunities for improvement.
- Promote best practice, success stories, and responsible use through comms and engagement.
- Support the development of AI governance frameworks, ensuring ethical, safe use of AI.
- Track usage, user feedback, and ROI, turning insights into improvements.
- Support development of dashboards and metrics that show AI’s impact.
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Copilot, Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Platform.
- Experience in user support, problem-solving, training, or digital enablement.
- Excellent communication skills—able to explain technical AI concepts clearly and simply.
- Understanding of data protection, information governance, and ethical AI.
- Ability to analyse usage data and turn insights into action.
- Experience working in a complex organisation (public sector experience desirable).
Desirable Skills
- Experience with prompt engineering or chatbot development.
- Knowledge of change management or digital transformation.
- Business analysis or requirements-gathering experience.
- Understanding of local government services and structures.
- Experience with Excel, Power BI, or other data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with Azure AI, Power Platform AI Builder, or Microsoft AI tools.

Hybrid working arrangements
