Apprentice, Journal Office Central Support

House of Lords – Journal Office

BELONG HERE. TOGETHER, WE MAKE PARLIAMENT HAPPEN.

As a Central Support Apprentice in the Journal Office, you’ll play an important role in supporting the UK’s parliamentary democracy. Your work will help members of the House of Lords carry out their responsibilities effectively — contributing to something bigger than any one role.

You’ll be part of a collaborative community, working alongside colleagues from a wide range of professions. Together, we make Parliament happen.

You’ll be based on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster — a unique working environment shaped by history and powered by the people who work here today.

Job description

What you’ll be doing

You’ll gain hands-on experience while completing a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship through a structured training programme, leading to a recognised qualification. You’ll be learning at a pace that suits you, supported by a mentor, your line manager and experienced colleagues.

You’ll be supporting the Office Manager and Senior Management Team by helping to plan meetings, communicate decisions and deliver key administrative tasks. You’ll also be contributing to corporate priorities such as financial management, business continuity, health and safety, and risk management, while helping to strengthen internal communications and processes across the office.

As part of a varied and collaborative environment, you’ll be working with teams across the Journal Office to build your skills and experience. This will include providing support in areas such as supplying papers to members of the House of Lords and responding to queries, assisting with data collection and analysis, and contributing to committee administration and the maintenance of registers of interests.

This is a multi-faceted role where you’ll be developing valuable skills through a mix of administrative and member-facing work.
