Hours of Work/Work Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm with a 60-minute lunch break

Basis: Full -Time, Fixed term – 1 Year

About The London Archives:

The London Archives (TLA) is a public research centre which specialises in the history of London, caring for and providing access to the historical archives of businesses, schools, hospitals, charities and all manner of other organisations from the London area. With over 100km of books, maps, photographs, films and documents dating back to 1067 in our strong rooms, we're proud to provide access to one of the finest city archives in the world - you could call it the memory of London.

Description:

An Archives Assistant is required to work at The London Archives (TLA) joining a team working to deadlines to provide a document retrieval service for the public. There is a requirement for lifting and moving large quantities of boxes, volumes and archives of other formats on a daily basis using ladders and trolleys. This will also include being on the rota to drive the van to collect and deliver documents to the City of London Guildhall and other locations in Greater London.

Other duties include aspects of security such as unlocking and locking the building and working on reception. Working in the public rooms liaising with members of the public. Assisting with office moves, various repository management services and supporting the work of other teams in the office. Assist with on site events.

A clean current driving licence and experience of driving in London (or a comparable major city) on a regular basis, a willingness to drive the office van and good communication skills are essential requirements. The Archives Assistant will be based at TLA but may be required to work at other sites.
