Job description

HMPPS Band 4

The National Crime in Prison Team is dedicated to improving justice outcomes for crimes committed within the prison estate. This Area Crime in Prison Coordinator (CiPCo) position provides an opportunity to support prisons through an area-specific, mobile, peripatetic model, delivering targeted support across Crime in Prison specific areas across the estate.

This role is specifically designed to strengthen capability and build resilience within establishments by providing temporary, needs-led support to either single prisons and/or clusters of prisons. Unlike permanent establishment-based CiPCo roles, post holders will be deployed to specific establishments or clusters for defined periods, supporting the development of sustainable processes, improving adherence to the Crime in Prison Referral Agreement (CiPRA), and embedding effective crime management practices. Deployment will be informed by ongoing area needs analysis, with a clear expectation that post holders will move between locations in line with changing priorities.

This approach forms part of a developing area support model, designed to enhance consistency and effectiveness across the estate. Through targeted deployment, the role will support establishments to implement and embed effective crime management processes, demonstrating sustainable models of resilience and enabling informed consideration of long-term resource and capability requirements.

The post holder will be line managed by the Area Crime Manager (Band 5) to provide specialist support to establishments, strengthening crime management processes, improving evidence handling, and promoting effective partnership working with criminal justice agencies.

The CiPCo role plays a key role in coordinating crime-related activity within prisons, ensuring consistent application of policy, supporting the Crime in Prison Referral Agreement (CiPRA), and improving outcomes for victims and witnesses of crime.

This role will cover the following establishments:

HMP Pentonville, Caledonian Rd, London N7 8TT

HMP Wormwood Scrubs, Du Cane Rd, London W12 0AE

HMP Isis, Belmarsh Way, London SE28 0FD

HMP Downview, Sutton Ln, Sutton SM2 5PD

HMP Brixton, Jebb Ave, Brixton Hill, London SW2 5XF

HMP Wandsworth, Heathfield Rd, London SW18 3HU

HMP Belmarsh, Western Way, London SE28 0EB

HMP Highdown, Highdown Lane, Sutton SM2 5PJ

HMP Feltham, Bedfont Rd, Feltham TW13 4NP

HMP Thameside, Griffin Manor Way, London SE28 0FJ

The base location will be the site in the region (the exception being contracted prisons) nearest to the successful candidates home address and can be changed as necessary.

The Area CIPCO role is a regionally mobile position, with deployment required across the entire Area Executive Director (AED) region. Mobility is a contractual requirement of the role, and there will be planned rotation between establishments within the region as a standard feature of the post.

This is a non-operational role but may require prisoner contact.
