
Army - Regimental Accountant Clerk
Job summary
Located within The Army Training Centre Pirbright (ATC (P)), this role offers challenges and high engagement with all staff across the establishment. ATC (P) is a fast paced environment offering exciting opportunities providing pivotal support to all members of personnel.
This post is based at ATC Pirbright, however until September 26, the role will also be required to carry out activities at Army Training Regiment Winchester, on a temporary detached duty basis, in support of critical training outputs and Winchester drawdown activity. Attendance at Winchester will be determined by business need and will be confirmed by Line Management on an as-needed basis. Once the Winchester drawdown is complete, the role will revert to Pirbright on a permanent basis.
Individuals will be entitled to claim travel expenses for journeys to and from Winchester, less the distance from home to their permanent duty station, in accordance with the Travel & Subsistence Policy. Use of pool cars will also be available.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
We are recruiting Administrative Officers to assist the Regimental Accountant with running of the Service Non-Public Funds, including a central bank account, taking ownership of the Junior Non-Commissioned Officer's (JNCOs) Club and the PRI Shop. The roles is ideal for an individual starting their careers in the Civil Service or seeking an entry level administrative position in a large public organisation.
Administrative Officers provide essential support to operational teams by managing information, processing cases, and ensuring services run smoothly. There is a mandated 3 week course that must be undertaken once in the role. The course will cover 1 week manual booking keeping, 1.5 weeks of Paxton followed by assessments.
Key responsibilities:
- Initiate the production of JNCO Club members bills on a monthly basis, ensuring charges are correct and authorised.
- Manage the accounting processes for the JNCOs’ Club in line with SFRs, ensuring accurate financial records and monthly member billing.
- Administer Direct Debit collections, resolve missed payments, and maintain accurate member information on Paxton Plus.
- Prepare monthly liquidity statements, end‑of‑month documentation, and audit ready financial records.
- Oversee day‑to‑day PRI Shop financial administration, including weekly stock updates on PAXTON, supplier payments, and stock reconciliation.
- Produce stock taking and sales reports, ensuring cash, stock, and adjustment figures accurately balance.
- Deliver a high standard of customer service to counter and walk in customers, handling enquiries and transactions professionally.
- Conduct bank runs with authorised escorts and manage payment and receipt checks for over the counter transactions.
- Complete arrivals and departures administration for unit personnel, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Maintain office records, registers, and checklists, including Fund Manager training compliance and policy aligned documentation.
- Provide administrative cover and general support to the Regimental Accountant, contributing to the smooth running of the Regimental Accounts Office.
