Harborough District Council’s vision is to work with communities in a vibrant, safe and prosperous district and to bring the best opportunities to all.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced facilities management or estates professional to manage the day-to-day operational running of The Symington Building, Harborough Market and other council properties.

The Symington Building houses a number of organisations working in partnership to deliver a ‘one stop shop’ approach for customers and visitors. In addition to Harborough District Council, partners include various services delivered by Leicestershire County Council including the Library & Museum, Registrar Service and Adult Learning, Job Centre Plus and a number of charitable organisations. We also have three on-site retail units.

Reporting to the Facilities Officer & Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring excellent standards of customer satisfaction are maintained, providing the key interface between Council properties, the concierge and the facilities management service provision. You will liaise with customers, tenants, delivery partners, staff, contractors and public bodies as appropriate to ensure the provision of support services meets and exceeds service level agreements.

You will regularly update and monitor planned maintenance schedules, reacting to unplanned activities, ensuring all contractors are appropriately prepared and compliant for any works on Council premises and that procurement and delivery of these are compliant with the Council’s standards.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Relevant, recent experience in the delivery of facilities management and / or estates management operations either through direct delivery or an outsourced service
  • Experience in work planning and management and creation of work programmes.
  • Experience in managing service provision by external providers
  • Experience in budgetary administration
  • To be able to organise, delegate and multitask

With a strong focus on customer service and excellent communication and customer relationship building skills, you will also be able to demonstrate negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to ensure external providers deliver excellent services and value for money.

You will need a full driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle. The ability to attend out of hours meetings/events on a regular basis is essential.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 9am 15th August 2025. The provisional interview date is 27th August 2025.

We reserve the right to bring forward the closing date should we receive sufficient suitable applications, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Desirable criteria from the person specification may be used for sifting purposes.

If you think you would be a great fit for us, but don’t meet all the requirements of the role, please contact us as we’d love to discuss how we could be the next step in your career journey.
