The Greater Cambridge Development Corporation is an urban development corporation. Its role is to work with partners to set out and deliver an ambitious plan for long-term sustainable growth for Greater Cambridge by coordinating the delivery of infrastructure, investment and strategic developments.

Job description

As a senior finance professional, you will play a leading role in developing robust financial reporting, governance and assurance processes, ensuring the organisation has the financial information and controls needed to support effective decision-making and accountability. This is a leadership role reporting to the Finance Director.

You will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation's statutory annual report and accounts, alongside quarterly financial reporting requirements. Working across the organisation and with external partners, you will build strong relationships to ensure the production of high-quality, accurate and timely financial information. You will also provide strategic finance advice to the investments function, the executive team, and the Board.

The role offers the opportunity to design and improve financial reporting processes, develop accounting policies and procedures, and enhance the accessibility and quality of financial data. You will also provide leadership in strengthening financial assurance, ensuring reporting models are evidence-based, transparent and supported by strong governance and control frameworks.

This is a highly visible role suited to someone who combines strong technical expertise with strategic thinking and excellent stakeholder management skills. You will have the opportunity to influence how a new public body operates, helping to establish best practice and support the successful delivery of the Corporation's vision through sound financial stewardship and continuous improvement.

This role is being recruited by Homes England to support the establishment and operation of the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation. The successful candidate will initially be employed by Homes England and will work predominantly on matters relating to the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation and its activities.

Person specification

We're looking for an accomplished finance professional with strong technical expertise and a passion for building high-quality financial reporting and governance frameworks. You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent) with significant experience of financial reporting under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), ideally gained within the public sector or a similarly complex and highly regulated environment.

You will bring substantial experience in leading financial reporting functions and a deep understanding of accounting for loans, equity investments, land holdings and other complex transactions. Experience of implementing and reporting under IFRS 9 will be particularly valuable, alongside a strong grasp of financial instruments and commercial property accounting.

As a leader, you will be committed to continuous improvement and developing high-performing teams and processes. You will be comfortable establishing robust controls, driving best practice and helping organisations strengthen the quality, accessibility and reliability of their financial information.

You will also be an excellent communicator, capable of translating complex financial information and modelling assumptions into clear, compelling insights for a range of audiences. Whether presenting to Boards, Audit and Risk Committees or senior stakeholders, you will be equally confident discussing technical detail and strategic implications.

Above all, you will combine technical excellence with sound judgement, strong stakeholder management skills and a collaborative approach, enabling you to support informed decision-making and help shape the future success of a growing and ambitious organisation.
