Assistant Headteacher – Teaching & Learning

Hours: Full Time

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: L11–L15

Workplace: Church Stretton

Start Date: January 2027 or sooner

We would welcome applications from leaders ready for their first Assistant Headteacher post, as well as those with senior leadership experience. You may currently lead a subject, faculty or whole-school area.

What matters most is that you are an excellent teacher who has led improvement beyond your own classroom and can show the difference it made. You will enjoy working alongside colleagues, turning ideas into practical changes and following through to see whether they improve pupils’ learning.

We are looking for someone with the energy to make things happen and the judgement to bring people with them. We are looking for someone who:

• has a strong understanding of effective teaching, curriculum and assessment;

• can support and challenge colleagues with clarity, warmth and professional credibility;

• knows how to develop others and build a culture of professional learning;

• can use evidence of pupils’ learning to identify priorities and evaluate impact; and

• shares our ambition for every pupil to achieve well and feel that they belong.

For the right person, this is a chance to help shape a school at an important point in its development, within a supportive leadership team and a distinctive Shropshire setting. We warmly encourage you to visit, meet us and see the school for yourself. You will join a leadership team that works closely together and shares responsibility for school improvement. We will give you the opportunity to get to know the school, build relationships and understand what is already working well before shaping the next steps with colleagues. You will have the support of the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher, alongside opportunities to develop your own leadership through the wider TrustEd Schools Partnership.

If you have read this far then you should probably come and visit us. To arrange a visit or an informal conversation about the role, please contact the Headteacher’s PA, sarah.compton@csschool.co.uk. Visit dates: Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th September, Monday 5th October.

Closing date: Monday 19th October 2026, 9am

Interviews: Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd October 2026

Please send your completed application form to sarah.compton@csschool.co.uk, together with a covering letter of no more than two sides of A4 explaining what you would bring to the role and how you would help develop teaching and learning at Church Stretton School. Please address your letter to Dr Andy Wood, Headteacher. CVs will not be accepted.
