We are recruiting for two Associate Director/Consultants in Public Health to join our Public Health Division.

Tower Hamlets is a fascinating place to live and work. It is an inner city London borough that is full of contrasts and extremes. For centuries, it has had amongst the highest levels of social deprivation and health inequalities in the country.However, over the past decades it has also been home to areas of great affluence such as Canary Wharf. The population is highly diverse, mobile and young and is changing rapidly due to both population growth and new trends in migration.

You will be joining a Public Health Division that has led innovative public health work that is recognised at London and national levels.We have a strong track record of achievement, excellent partnership working and a strong reputation for high quality analytical public health work. We are well established as a training location. In addition to Public Health SpRs we have Academic F2s and Sports and Exercise Medicine SpRs.We have strong links with the NHS and local universities. The Royal London Hospital and Queen Mary University are in the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be a visible, authoritative and trusted leader across the council and with partners in public health in areas of responsibility
  • To develop and implement a prioritised public health team work programme
  • To articulate a clear narrative between actions and outcomes (encompassing logic modelling, outcome based accountability, insight and intelligence, strategy, partnership working, commissioning, evaluation, innovation and research)
  • To provide leadership, direction, motivation and inspiration to the team in delivering the work programme
  • To influence at senior level through representation at council Directorate Leadership Teams (DLTs) and other bodies within the council and across partners.
  • To review the work programme on an ongoing basis and provide the Director of Public Health with regular updates on progress against delivery
  • To be professionally and managerially accountable to the Director of Public Health
The portfolios you will be responsible will be for dicussion but will cover one of Healthy Communities, Healthy Children and Families or Healthy Adults.

Requirements

To apply for this role you must be registered with the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists or the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
