Job description

At the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) our Associate End User Computing (EUC) Engineers work under limited supervision supporting several products, product sets, systems and hardware to help maintain the availability of the IT service experienced by end users. Working in a multi skilled team-based environment, the engineer has responsibility for providing IT support to customers/contractors.

Aspects of the role include, but are not limited to ServiceNow, Deskside support, Install, Moves and Changes to End User devices, Build Lab Engineering and IT Stores asset management. Our core working hours are between 7am - 5pm.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  1. Apply and operate EUC processes, tools and technologies and highlight areas for improvement in support of I&OPS and ITS objectives.
  2. Take ownership for listening to and understanding the customer’s problem. Escalate and/or gain support where necessary to resolve the problem. Use relevant information to diagnose and to resolve or enable resolution in line with agreed service levels.
  3. Meet user needs in relation to End User Devices and have the technical understanding of a variety of products to match the needs of users to a range of appropriate devices.
  4. Keep up to date with new or emerging technologies.
  5. Work closely with Service Asset and Configuration Management team to support the reuse and disposal of assets in line with agreed processes and policies.
  6. Support the digital transformation of DVLA services in line with UK Government Digital Strategy.

Person specification

You will have a basic understanding of computer system software, modern operating systems and hardware which, after the relevant required training, will result in you being able to confidently give sound advice and provide effective resolutions to problems.

You will understand the importance of working as a team and can prove to be a valid team member, as well as working under your own initiative.

With strong communication skills, you will have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. You can deliver information in a clear, confident, professional manner, sometimes relaying complex information to others on a regular basis.

Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for this role as there will be a lot of face-to-face contact with our customers and we will expect you to build trusting relationships quickly.

Additional Information

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles at DVLA consist of 37 hours per week. Applications will be accepted from full time/part time/job sharers. Part time and/or flexible working may also be available subject to the needs of the business. This role will require you to work on-site at our DVLA Swansea office with some adhoc travel to our office in Birmingham.

This role is not suitable for hybrid working and will require the successful candidate to work solely from their designated workplace (the location cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, from other offices/work locations.
