About the role
Our Internal Audit service is recognised for its professional, pro-active and supportive approach. We work with all Council services in improving controls, managing risk and driving forward performance in the face of financial and non-financial challenges.
We are are keen to hear from potential Auditors who have a passion for working in the public sector for a fixed term role.
We work with a range of service areas, making every day different, and deliver internal audit work for a range of external partners. We are currently the trusted internal audit service for a further four local authorities and regularly deliver audits for a range of schools and academy trusts across the region. This will provide the successful applicant with opportunities to build their auditing experience with a variety of assignments and organisations to work with.
Our current working arrangements rely on remote and flexible working, which enables us to be responsive to our customers and be available to attend Council sites as needed. Some of our customers are based in Leicestershire, Rutland and Cambridgeshire – so we would be keen to hear from any applicants who are interested in working in these areas.
We would be willing to consider applications for part-time working.
What will you be doing?
The successful applicant will be required to conduct audit testing which will assess the effectiveness of the Council's controls. This will include financial and non-financial controls. So, in the space of an average week, you could be testing the accuracy of payroll payments; checking whether properties have been subject to safety checks; or reviewing the timely processing of safeguarding referrals. Every day really is different and brings new experiences which will be valuable in developing a strong auditing career.
The role will require the post holder to understand risk and controls and to use their audit work to reach a conclusion as to whether controls are effective in practice. This gives the Auditor the opportunity to make a real difference to Council services and provide vital assurances to the Council's leadership.
About you
You should have an understanding - gained through experience or training - of risk and assurance. You may have experience in local government or a related service which gives you an appreciation of the risk environment and the challenges faced by councils and schools. We are interested to receive applications from those with experience in related fields or sectors who have transferable skills in analysing/protecting data, assessing controls or compliance, tackling fraud; or general risk management.
You might not have completed a formal qualification in the area, but we would be interested in your relevant experience or transferable skills to build upon.
Previous experience within internal audit, risk management or counter fraud is beneficial but even more important is your commitment to learn and apply your skills to benefit your career and our customers.
This is an ideal opportunity to develop your experience and skills for a fulfilling internal audit career.
