Job description

Proud to serve. Proud to keep justice going.

If you’re customer focussed and intent on delivering excellent service, then this role gives you the opportunity to play a pivotal role within HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS).

About us

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice and is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice.

The Court of Protection (COP) is a specialist court for England and Wales that deals with decision making for adults (and in some cases children) who may lack capacity to make decisions themselves. The bulk of the work relates to decisions about property and financial affairs, but we also deal with serious decisions about healthcare and personal welfare, including whether someone can be deprived of their liberty under the Mental Capacity Act. The central registry of the court is in London, First Avenue House, with regional hubs and hearing centres across England and Wales.

Your role

Working closely with the judiciary and the court administration teams, you will be authorised to exercise the jurisdiction of the court in accordance with Practice Direction 2B to assess applications on receipt, make certain case management decisions, and make final determinations on certain property and affairs applications. You will work under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Judge and will exercise independence and impartiality in the use of your powers.

Your skills and experience

Experience of exercising delegated authorised jurisdiction – desirable

Ability to motivate and support your team to deliver excellent customer service and achieve effective performance.

IT proficient with the ability to learn and adapt to different technologies and software packages.

Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills
