Job description

Proud to Serve. Proud to keep justice going.

As a bailiff you will play a vital role in the UK’s Justice System working on the front line, dealing with people who are at some of the most challenging points of their lives.

About us

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice. We provide support for the legal system across England and Wales, ensuring justice works for everyone.

Our Justice system defends our fundamental rights and freedoms. It is a cornerstone of our modern society. It protects some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, from families in crisis to claimants and commercial businesses. We have a responsibility to deliver a Justice system that is accessible to everyone and operates efficiently.

We asked some bailiffs what they loved about their job, and here are their responses:

“The abilities you need as a bailiff is the ability to listen, to be a good communicator and you need a persuasive manner to explain that it’s an order from the Courts that has to be carried out, whilst, showing great empathy for customers.

I do love this job, it's only my 3rd job since I left school, I’m 58, my first job I had for around 39 years, I probably haven’t got another 39 left, but if I did, I’d hope I’m still a bailiff.”

“Being a bailiff is incredibly rewarding…you are part of a select group within HMCTS, you can draw on the experience of colleagues who will always be on hand to give advice or support you when needed. It’s not just a job- it’s who you are and how you deliver it.”

Your role

We understand that this role will not suit everyone, but if you like a dynamic job that has different challenges each day a bailiff role may suit you.

To be a successful bailiff, you will be an excellent communicator. You need to be able to swiftly assess circumstances, adapt accordingly and be a confident leader in emotionally charged situations.

As a Bailiff you will be visiting people in their homes and businesses, you must be able to calmly explain why you are visiting and what options are available to help resolve matters. You must be able to demonstrate empathy for court users, be non-judgmental but focussed on carrying out your role whilst fully respecting the customers that you meet.

You will be able to plan your days to manage your workload but be able to cope and adapt with plans changing at short notice.

We give you the option of using your own car or, following successful completion of your probation period, a lease car, (UK driving licence required for a lease car) so a full licence entitling you to drive permanently in Great Britain is essential. Fuel allowances are paid. You will receive full PPE and safety training to give you the knowledge and confidence to conduct your bailiff duties successfully. You should be familiar with using IT and be comfortable with receiving training on the courts case management systems.

If you have excellent customer service skills, prefer working away from an office, enjoy working by yourself or in a small team and like your days to be varied, then working as a bailiff may be the job for you.

Not to be confused with private Bailiffs, this role gives you the opportunity to make a difference in HMCTS and develop your career within the Civil Service.

We’re passionate about delivering Justice for everybody in the UK. That means having a diverse workforce that fully represents the people we serve so if you have the confidence and desire to make a difference and are interested, please apply.

Please refer to the role profile attachment for more information.

Becoming an HMCTS Bailiff: Flexible Hours, Real Support, Real Impact

Welsh Verson

Balch o Wasanaethu. Balch o Gadw Cyfiawnder i Fynd.

Fel beili, byddwch yn chwarae rhan hanfodol yn System Gyfiawnder y DU, gan weithio ar y rheng flaen gyda phobl sydd, yn aml, yn wynebu rhai o gyfnodau mwyaf heriol eu bywydau.

Amdanom Ni

Mae Gwasanaeth Llysoedd a Thribiwnlysoedd EF (HMCTS) yn asiantaeth i'r Weinyddiaeth Gyfiawnder. Rydym yn darparu cefnogaeth i'r system gyfreithiol ledled Cymru a Lloegr, gan sicrhau bod cyfiawnder yn gweithio i bawb.

Mae ein system gyfiawnder yn amddiffyn ein hawliau a'n rhyddid sylfaenol. Mae'n gonglfaen i'n cymdeithas fodern. Mae'n diogelu rhai o'r bobl fwyaf bregus yn ein cymunedau, o deuluoedd mewn argyfwng i hawlwyr a busnesau masnachol. Mae gennym gyfrifoldeb i ddarparu system gyfiawnder sy'n hygyrch i bawb ac sy'n gweithredu'n effeithlon.

Beth Mae Beilïaid yn ei Garu am eu Gwaith?

Gofynnom i rai beilïaid beth maent yn ei hoffi am eu swydd, a dyma eu hymatebion:

“Y sgiliau sydd eu hangen arnoch fel beili yw'r gallu i wrando, bod yn gyfathrebwr da, a bod â dull perswadiol o egluro mai gorchymyn gan y llysoedd yw hwn y mae'n rhaid ei weithredu, tra'n dangos empathi mawr tuag at gwsmeriaid.

Rwy'n hoff iawn o'r swydd hon. Dyma ond fy nhrydedd swydd ers gadael yr ysgol. Rwy'n 58 oed. Bûm yn fy swydd gyntaf am tua 39 mlynedd. Mae'n debyg nad oes gennyf 39 mlynedd arall ar ôl, ond pe bawn, byddwn yn gobeithio fy mod yn dal i fod yn feili.”

“Mae bod yn feili yn hynod werthfawr... rydych yn rhan o grŵp arbennig o fewn HMCTS. Gallwch fanteisio ar brofiad cydweithwyr a fydd bob amser wrth law i roi cyngor neu gefnogaeth pan fydd angen. Nid swydd yn unig ydyw, mae'n rhan o bwy ydych chi a sut rydych chi'n ei chyflawni.”

Eich Rôl

Rydym yn deall na fydd y rôl hon yn addas i bawb, ond os ydych yn mwynhau swydd ddeinamig gyda heriau gwahanol bob dydd, gallai rôl beili fod yn addas i chi.

Er mwyn bod yn feili llwyddiannus, byddwch yn gyfathrebwr rhagorol. Bydd angen i chi allu asesu amgylchiadau'n gyflym, addasu yn unol â hynny, a dangos arweinyddiaeth hyderus mewn sefyllfaoedd sy'n llawn emosiwn.

Fel beili, byddwch yn ymweld â phobl yn eu cartrefi a'u busnesau. Rhaid i chi allu egluro'n dawel pam rydych yn ymweld a pha opsiynau sydd ar gael i helpu i ddatrys y materion. Dylech allu dangos empathi tuag at ddefnyddwyr y llysoedd, bod yn ddiduedd, a chanolbwyntio ar gyflawni eich rôl tra'n parchu'n llwyr y bobl rydych yn eu cyfarfod.

Byddwch yn gallu cynllunio eich diwrnodau i reoli eich llwyth gwaith, ond hefyd yn gallu ymdopi ac addasu pan fydd cynlluniau'n newid ar fyr rybudd.

Rydym yn rhoi'r opsiwn i chi ddefnyddio eich car eich hun neu, ar ôl cwblhau eich cyfnod prawf yn llwyddiannus, car ar brydles (mae angen trwydded yrru'r DU ar gyfer car ar brydles). Felly mae trwydded yrru lawn sy'n eich galluogi i yrru'n barhaol ym Mhrydain Fawr yn hanfodol. Telir lwfansau tanwydd. Byddwch yn derbyn yr holl PPE a hyfforddiant diogelwch angenrheidiol i roi'r wybodaeth a'r hyder i chi gyflawni eich dyletswyddau fel beili yn llwyddiannus. Dylech fod yn gyfarwydd â defnyddio TG ac yn gyfforddus yn derbyn hyfforddiant ar systemau rheoli achosion y llysoedd.

Os oes gennych sgiliau gwasanaeth cwsmeriaid rhagorol, yn well gennych weithio i ffwrdd o swyddfa, yn mwynhau gweithio ar eich pen eich hun neu mewn tîm bach, ac yn hoffi amrywiaeth yn eich diwrnod gwaith, yna gallai gwaith fel beili fod yn addas i chi.

Ni ddylid cymysgu'r rôl hon â beilïaid preifat. Mae'r swydd hon yn rhoi cyfle i chi wneud gwahaniaeth yn HMCTS a datblygu eich gyrfa o fewn y Gwasanaeth Sifil.

Rydym yn angerddol am ddarparu cyfiawnder i bawb yn y DU. Mae hynny'n golygu cael gweithlu amrywiol sy'n adlewyrchu'n llawn y bobl rydym yn eu gwasanaethu. Felly, os oes gennych yr hyder a'r awydd i wneud gwahaniaeth ac os oes gennych ddiddordeb, rydym yn eich annog i wneud cais.

Cyfeiriwch at yr atodiad proffil rôl am ragor o wybodaeth.
