We are seeking a structured and detail-oriented Blue Badge Assessment Officer to join our Benefits Team. In this vital role, you will perform desk-based assessments to determine eligibility for the Blue Badge scheme, helping citizens with mobility issues and non-visible disabilities maintain their independence.
No previous Blue Badge experience? No problem. We pride ourselves on offering comprehensive, high-quality training and ongoing mentorship to ensure you are fully confident and supported from day one.
What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities):
Conduct Desk-Based Assessments: Review written applications, digital forms, and medical evidence (such as consultant reports, prescriptions, and mobility detail) against strict national guidelines.
Verify Information: Cross-check internal local authority databases and social care records to build an accurate picture of an applicant's needs.
Manage Communications: Contact applicants or medical professionals via telephone or email when further clarity or additional supporting evidence is required.
Accurate Record Keeping: Input assessment data and outcomes clearly into our administrative software systems.
Identify Complex Cases: recognize when a clear decision cannot be made from a desk-review alone, referring complex cases onward to an Expert Medical Assessor.
What We Are Looking For (Skills & Experience):
Strong Analytical Skills: An ability to interpret complex information, medical documents, and legislation objectively.
Excellent Communication: A polite, empathetic, and professional phone manner, alongside clear written communication skills.
Great IT Literacy: Comfort using databases, administrative systems, and standard Microsoft Office tools.
Attention to Detail: High accuracy in data entry and written documentation.
Fair and Non-Judgmental: A commitment to equality, ensuring every application is assessed fairly without bias.
