Job description
We are looking for high-potential individuals looking to become a Chartered Surveyor via this challenging and fast-paced apprenticeship. It provides an excellent opportunity to achieve an BSc in Real Estate and MRICS status in just 5 years. An integrated programme of work and learning will be put in place to ensure you get the right mix and breadth of experience required to complete your apprenticeship. Candidates will need to have resilience, dedication and a commitment to pursuing a career in the surveying profession via a particularly demanding accelerated route. You will undertake an integrated programme of work and learning to ensure you get the right mix and breadth of experience required to complete your apprenticeship. You will undertake a variety of roles and responsibilities as part of your apprenticeship such as advising public sector clients, surveying and valuing properties for, non-domestic rating, inheritance tax and council tax, undertaking development appraisals and much more.
Key responsibilities
- Provide valuations and property advice to support taxation and benefits to the government and local authorities in England and Wales.
- Provide independent, impartial, valuation and professional property advice across the entire public sector, and where public money or public functions are involved.
- Undertake property inspections, draw, scale and analyse property plans, identify and record property attributes.
- Research, analyse and review property data to support real estate valuation in line with statute and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyor’s Global Standards.
- Manage your own case load effectively to deliver work promptly and within set timescales.

Essential Criteria
To be eligible for this role you will:
- Be committed to undertake and complete the Level 6 BSc Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship and build a career in surveying.
- Need to spend approximately 20% of your working hours on learning and development activities and you will also need to dedicate at least 10-15 hours per week of your own time to your academic studies.
- Have the potential to develop and evidence new knowledge, understanding and experience in property and valuation at a rapid pace.
- Have strong data and analytical skills to inform decision-making and provide advice to others.
- Be able to communicate complex information effectively to others, both verbally and in writing.
- Be able to adapt to different types of work and manage competing demands at one time.
- Be able work effectively with others and demonstrate leadership capability when required.
- Be willing and able to travel on a regular basis, including potential overnight stays.

Further important information regarding eligibility:
- During the recruitment process you will need to provide certificates for the above. A statement of results from your exam board will suffice initially if you are awaiting certificates, however you will need to provide certificates as part of the onboarding and enrolment.
- You cannot already hold a qualification at the same level or above in the same subject area as the apprenticeship or an RICS accredited degree or masters in any discipline. - For the duration of the apprenticeship, you cannot undertake any other formal qualifications at the same time.
- You cannot undertake any part of an apprenticeship whilst on a sandwich placement as part of a degree programme.
- We will accept applications from candidates holding qualifications from outside of the UK and progress through initial sift stage, however you will be asked to apply for a statement of comparability to continue through the selection process. Information for International Candidates - Eligibility for the Apprenticeship
To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must be able to complete the full apprenticeship programme within the time available to you (66 months, starting from 05 October 2026). This means we can only offer employment to successful candidates whose residency and Right to Work in the UK will cover the entire duration of the apprenticeship.
If your current immigration permission will expire before the programme ends, you would need to be eligible to extend your stay. If you would not be able to complete the full programme within the required timeframe (for example, due to a visa expiry with no eligible extension route), we are unfortunately unable to progress your application under the apprenticeship funding rules.
Skilled Worker Visa Sponsorship

You will be joining the department during the transition of the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) into HMRC. For this reason, the role will start on VOA terms and conditions for a temporary transition period. After this, your employment will move to HMRC Terms and Conditions.
Working Pattern Whilst we try take personal circumstances into account wherever possible, successful candidates must be willing and able to work at least 30 hours per week to meet the requirements of the programme.
Locations
