Job Introduction

Join Us Again as a BTP Police Constable - Returner Pathway

Have you previously served with the British Transport Police?

Whether you stepped away from policing or continued your career elsewhere at another Force; your skills, experience and commitment to public service are still valued here and we’d love to welcome you back.

Why Return to BTP?

At BTP, our purpose is clear: to keep the travelling public safe across the nation’s railways. As a returning officer, you’ll bring insight, operational knowledge, and a strong foundation in community policing that genuinely makes a difference.

We’re looking for individuals who:

  • Demonstrate continued commitment to public service and safety
  • Bring authentic motivation for returning to BTP
  • Are dedicated to ongoing learning and professional development

If that sounds like you - we want to hear from you.

Eligibility Criteria:

You may be eligible to return as a Police Constable if:

  • There is a vacant post at your preferred posting location (recruitment will check this for you).
  • You left BTP in the same rank you wish to return to within 12 months, or within 5 years if you have continuous police service

You must not have:

  • Been on any formal UPP stage when leaving BTP
  • Been on Stage 2 for sickness upon leaving
  • Any live investigations, complaints, performance issues, or misconduct warnings (including from other forces)
  • Any active CCJs, unmanaged IVAs, or bankruptcy
  • Been dismissed from another force
  • Retired from BTP

Further internal reference checks will be completed by divisional HR, and final approval will be required from your Divisional Commander.
