What You'll Be Doing
- Act as a technical specialist and lead on expert advice to developers, architects, councillors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure performance, resourcing and income targets meet the standards of a world-class regulatory service.
- Oversee the delivery of the dangerous structures service, both during office hours and out-of-hours.
- Lead on processing and determining building control applications for buildings up to 18m.
- Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and Fire Safety Act 2021 through robust inspection and audit processes.
- Attend client and design meetings, offering technical advice and insight on innovative solutions.
- Collaborate with developers, engineers, and statutory bodies to champion safe, high-quality construction.
- Drive quality assurance by supporting the implementation of ISO9001 and building safety governance frameworks.
- Engage with key stakeholders like the LFB, Building Safety Regulator, and Department for Levelling Up.
- Act as a lead on enforcement matters, dangerous structures, and customer queries, providing a responsive and high-calibre service.
- Contribute to digital transformation and system enhancements using tools like Uniform, SAP, and the Modern Data Platform.
What We're Looking For
We need a dynamic and experienced Building Control Inspector who is driven to make a difference and can bring a blend of the following:
- Chartered professional with corporate membership of one or more: RICS, CABE, IStructE, ICE, CIOB, IMechE, CIAT, RIBA or IFE.
- Will hold a Class 2 professional Building Controls Qualification
- Proven track record in managing applications and inspections for mid-rise residential and commercial buildings.
- Deep understanding of statutory building control processes, legislation, and dangerous structures.
- Strong IT skills across MS Office and building control systems.
- Demonstrable experience in building control within a city or urban context, including large-scale residential and commercial applications.
- Expert knowledge of Building Regulations, technical construction solutions, and the legislative framework.
- Confident communicator with the ability to work across a wide range of stakeholders and deliver trusted, pragmatic advice.
