Wakefield Council is investing in its Building Control Service and is seeking a talented and ambitious Registered Building Control Surveyor to join our expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including complex developments, while helping to shape the future of Building Control across the district.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and proactive individual who is keen to further their career in local government Building Control. Whether you are an experienced Registered Building Control Inspector or looking to progress within the profession, we would welcome your application.

Salary and Progression

This is a career grade opportunity (Grades 6-10), with appointments made according to your qualifications, registration class and experience.

We are currently seeking candidates registered with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) at a minimum of Class 2A.

• Grade 10 salary range: £42,839 - £46,142
• Market Rate Supplement:£6,000 per annum for inspectors registered above Class 2A
• Maximum package: Up to £52,142 per annum

The successful candidate will be offered a salary within the relevant grade range that reflects their skills, knowledge, experience and registration level.

About the Role

You will play a key role in delivering a high-quality Building Control service across the Wakefield district.

Key responsibilities include:

• Plan assessments and technical reviews
• Site inspections across a wide variety of developments within your competency range
• Providing advice and guidance to customers, developers and stakeholders
• Enforcement and compliance activities
• Dangerous structures and demolitions
• Public safety functions, including work relating to sports grounds
• Maintaining accurate records and high professional standards

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Registration with the Building Safety Regulator at a minimum of Class 2A
• Recent Building Control experience
• A thorough knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• The ability to effectively manage a diverse workload and competing priorities
• Strong IT skills and accurate record-keeping abilities
• A commitment to delivering excellent customer service
• Knowledge of compliance and governance

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use are essential requirements of the role.

Working Arrangements

This post is full-time (37 hours per week). However, we will also consider applications for:

• Part-time working
• Job share arrangements
• Short-term cover arrangements
