We are entering an exciting period and need a committed and enthusiastic individual, who enjoys a challenge, to assist the Council in maintaining its reputation for high quality service and decision making.

We have recently been audited by the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and have worked to put in place the necessary monitoring and reporting to be fully compliant with the Operational Standards Rules (OSRs), with the aim to conclude our audit and ensure full compliance by the end of this year.

In this exciting and varied role, you’ll be at the forefront of building control, ensuring developments comply with Building Regulations. You will;

  • Be part of a high-performing Building Control team delivering a trusted, respected, and customer-focused service
  • Work on a diverse range of projects—from validating applications and conducting site inspections to managing dangerous structures and demolitions
  • Collaborate with industry professionals and local government stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and sustainable development
  • Enjoy a supportive environment that encourages professional growth, innovation, and learning.
  • Benefit from flexible working arrangements, ongoing training, and a commitment to your career development

Key Skills and abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills for persuading, influencing, and building relationships
  • Effective communication with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret complex data and provide sound recommendations
  • Skilled in presenting information and writing reports for varied audiences
  • Capable of working independently and managing own workload
  • Problem-solving skills to handle unexpected issues and propose solutions
  • Proficient in general IT and specialist software (e.g., Idox Uniform, Microsoft 365)
  • In-depth knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation
  • Familiarity with best practices in Building Control (e.g., inspections, enforcement, DDA compliance)
  • Experience in working within a Registered Building Control Approver (RBCA)
  • Experience in Local Authority Building Control (desirable)
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and council values
  • Willingness to respond to dangerous structures outside normal working hours

Experience

Previous practical experience working within building control is essential.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold both a GCSE or equivalent, in Maths and English at Grade C (Grade 4) and above.

Applicants should ideally be a Class 2 (A-F) Registered Building Inspector (RBI), but other Class RBIs will be considered.

Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) and or other relevant equivalent professional bodies is desirable.

Applicants must hold a full valid UK driving licence (for site visits).

  • 27 days Annual leave
  • FREE Gym membership
