Help Shape Safer Homes and Stronger Communities at Hightown

If you have worked in a housing association before, you already know that building safety is about far more than compliance. It’s about people, trust, and creating homes where residents feel secure, respected, and listened to. At Hightown, that belief drives every decision we make.

As our Building Safety Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring our homes remain safe, well-maintained and supported by a clear, transparent safety culture that puts residents at the heart of everything we do.

    What You Will Be Doing

As a sector-experienced professional, you will understand the practical importance of the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021 and the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 and you’ll bring those duties to life in a meaningful, resident-focused way.

    You will:

    • Lead on building safety across our higher-risk homes, ensuring information, inspections and records are accurate, accessible, and always ready for scrutiny.
    • Manage the Golden Thread, develop robust Safety Case Reports, and embed proactive risk management across our assets.
    • Oversee inspections, contractors and remedial works, ensuring issues are identified early and resolved promptly.
    • Communicate clearly and sensitively with residents, helping them understand complex building safety requirements and feel informed, reassured and respected.
    • Work closely with colleagues in Repairs, Housing, Compliance, Development and Asset Management to ensure building safety is understood, shared, and consistent across the organisation.
    • Support the continuous improvement of policies, influence best practice, and help ensure Hightown stays ahead of evolving regulations and sector expectations.

Your prior housing experience means you will know how to balance operational urgency with resident care, regulatory pressure with professional judgement, and technical detail with clear communication.

    Who We Are Looking For

You will thrive in this role if you bring:

    • Strong technical knowledge in building safety, HRRBs, Safety Case development or compliance.
    • An approachable communication style that helps residents and colleagues understand technical information.
    • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach, building strong relationships across teams and with contractors.
    • Organisational confidence, proactive risk awareness and the ability to manage complex, changing priorities.
    • A compassionate, resident-focused mindset grounded in respect, inclusion and empowerment.
    • A Health & Safety or Fire Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, Fire Management) and membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, RICS, CIOB, RIBA, CIBSE, IFSM).
    • The CIOB Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management, or the motivation to work towards it.

If you have previously worked in a housing association and understand the realities of balancing resident expectations with regulatory requirements, you’ll be an excellent fit.
