Bursar (Full Time)

37 hours per week | Start Date: September 2026

The Headteacher and Governors of Bickerton Primary School are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and highly organised full-time Bursar to join our friendly and dedicated team from September 2026, following the departure of our current postholder.

Bickerton Primary School is a small, welcoming rural primary school with 96 pupils on roll. We pride ourselves on our strong sense of community, caring ethos and committed staff team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to make a significant contribution to the strategic leadership and operational management of our school.

The Bursar plays a vital role in ensuring the effective and efficient running of the school's business functions. Working closely with the Headteacher and Governors, you will lead on financial management, oversee the day-to-day operation of the school office, and manage personnel administration, helping to ensure the school continues to provide the very best education for our pupils.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience of financial management, including budget planning, monitoring, forecasting, preparation of accounts and statutory financial reporting.
  • Experience of using financial and management information systems, together with excellent IT skills.
  • Knowledge of HR administration and employment processes, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, governors and external agencies.
  • A proactive, flexible and solution-focused approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Previous experience of working in a school would be an advantage; however, we recognise that many applicants will bring valuable transferable skills from other sectors. If you have strong financial and administrative experience, excellent organisational skills, and a willingness to learn, we would be delighted to hear from you. Appropriate training and professional development will be provided to support the successful candidate.

In return, we can offer:

  • A welcoming, inclusive and supportive school community.
  • Friendly, dedicated and hardworking colleagues.
  • A varied and rewarding role with opportunities to make a real difference.
  • Ongoing professional development and training.
  • Supportive leadership and an engaged Governing Board.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged. To arrange a visit or request further information, please contact the school office at admin@bickerton.cheshire.sch.uk.

Bickerton Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, together with all other safer recruitment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
