Bursar / School Business Manager (SBM)

Grade 7 | 25 hours per week (with some flexibility)

Kingsley Community Primary and Nursery School is a friendly, welcoming school at the heart of our community. We are proud of the warm relationships between our children, families and staff, and we work together to ensure every child feels safe, valued and able to thrive.

We are now looking for a Bursar / School Business Manager to join our team and help support the smooth running of the school behind the scenes. This is a key role, working closely with the Headteacher and Governors, ensuring that our finances, administration, staffing and premises are well managed so that our teachers can focus on what matters most – our children.

About the role

As our Bursar / SBM, you will be the friendly, professional lead for the school’s business and administrative functions. Your work will help keep the school organised, financially secure and well supported.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the school’s budget, keeping track of spending and helping plan for the future
  • Providing clear and helpful financial advice to the Headteacher and Governing Body
  • Overseeing day-to-day finance, including invoices, income, school fund and reporting
  • Managing staffing administration, including contracts, payroll processes and recruitment support
  • Leading and supporting our office, caretaking, cleaning and lunchtime teams
  • Supporting the Governing Body
  • Overseeing premises and contracts
  • Exploring and managing funding and fundraising opportunities

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Organised, calm and reliable, with a good eye for detail
  • Confident working with budgets, finance and administration
  • Comfortable working with people at all levels, including staff, governors, parents and external partners
  • Experienced in managing or supporting staff
  • Able to use IT systems confidently, including spreadsheets and school or finance systems
  • Discreet and professional, able to handle sensitive information with care

Experience in a school setting is helpful, but we also welcome applicants from other backgrounds who can bring strong organisational, financial and people skills.
