We are looking for a Business Manager to join our Digital and Technology Directorate, offering a valuable opportunity to gain a front‑row view of how digital services are designed and delivered to support our business and customers.

At the heart of the Directorate, you will support the Digital Senior Leadership Team (D‑SLT), working across teams to coordinate priorities, enable delivery of strategic objectives, and ensure the smooth running of key activities. You will build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, helping to drive collaboration, maintain momentum, and make a visible contribution to the continued success and growth of Companies House.

Job description

  • Provide strong administrative support across the Directorate including to the Director and D-SLT
  • Draft and publish effective communications and assets to the Directorate, including bulletins, PowerPoint presentations and SharePoint content
  • Line manage the Director of Digital & Technology’s Personal Assistant, supporting their work schedules, performance, development and wellbeing
  • Manage multiple communication channels in Teams and Slack
  • Manage the new starter processes within the Directorate
  • Work with budget and financial controls, including preparing Purchase Requisitions and processing of invoices
  • Support the tracking and monitoring of risks, documenting actions required and ensure files are kept up to date
  • Actively participate in the People Survey Engagement Group to develop and progress initiatives
Learning and Development
  • Coordinate with stakeholders at all levels of the Directorate and the Learning and Talent team to ensure learning is organised and delivered efficiently and effectively
  • Manage the Learning Needs Analysis process within the Directorate to capture learning requirements across this highly technical profession, ensuring compliance levels are met for the business
  • Effectively communicating learning and development opportunities to the Directorate
Meeting and Event Support
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leaders and Directorate PA to plan meetings and coordinate agendas including preparation of meeting papers
  • Facilitate Directorate-wide meetings
  • Undertake minute taking as required
Collaboration across functions and Directorates
  • Work across the Business Manager function to collectively manage the flow of information to and from the leadership team
  • Act as point-of-contact for the Digital & Technology Directorate with Finance and Learning & Talent

The Digital Business Manager will be organised, adaptable, and collaborative professional, operating at the heart of the Digital and Technology Directorate. The role requires confidence working with senior leaders, balancing multiple priorities, and supporting strategic delivery through strong coordination, communication, and relationship management. The post holder will make a visible contribution to the Directorate’s effectiveness, culture, and continuous improvement.

We’re looking for a Business Manager who:

  • Communicates clearly, honestly, and effectively, adapting style and approach to suit different audiences and maximise understanding and impact
  • Produces high-quality written materials, demonstrating the ability to tailor content appropriately for different contexts, including briefings, presentations, and internal communications
  • Builds and maintains strong, trusted working relationships with a wide range of colleagues, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and collaboration
  • Effectively manages competing priorities and a varied workload, responding quickly and flexibly to changing or emerging demands
  • Demonstrates confident presentation and public speaking skills, with the ability to lead and open meetings, engage audiences, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiently uses in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, to support effective delivery of work
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience of working across teams and functions, engaging with stakeholders across the organisation to support business and Directorate priorities

Where will you be working?

You will be based out of our Cardiff office, where you will be expected to attend on a regular basis. We are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work which provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. The degree of choice you have will depend on your role and your day-to-day work activities. Your manager will agree regular patterns of attendance with you, however you may be required to make yourself available to attend the office more frequently when required to meet business needs.

What will the process look like?

Stage 1 – Sift

An initial sift of applications will be carried out to create a shortlist. This will be based on the evidence provided for the following Success Profile: Experience

Write a Personal Statement of 750 words: tell us, using examples, how you meet the following criteria:

Stage 2 - Interview

Companies House uses a blended interview technique, allowing us to find out more about you. We use the Success Profile framework and at interview we will use Success Profiles assessing the Behaviours and Experience listed in the advert, and Strengths.

Candidates invited to interview will be asked to prepare a presentation, which will be assessing Experience:

  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

The presentation will be at the beginning of the interview, followed by Behaviour and Technical Skills questions. Full details of the presentation topic will be sent in the interview confirmation email.

The lead criteria to distinguish between tied candidates will be the presentation, which is assessing Experience: Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

A reserve list may be held for up to 12 months from which further appointments may be made for the same or similar roles.

If after the interview you are not found appointable at the advertised grade, you may be offered the lower grade role if you are considered to meet the skills, experience and behaviours for the lower level. The benchmark for appointing to the lower grade is set at the start of each campaign.

All offers will be made in merit order.

In line with Government guidance, successfully appointed candidates will need to provide documents for our Right to Work checks.
