Job summary

Forest Services, part of the Forestry Commission, is responsible for supporting, protecting and expanding England’s woodlands to deliver environmental, economic and societal benefits.The Business Services and Information Manager plays a key role within the IT and Business Services team, ensuring Forest Services has effective, efficient and compliant corporate services and information management in place to deliver its objectives.The role is responsible for overseeing business service provision, leading contract and supplier management activity, and ensuring robust implementation of knowledge and information management policies across Forest Services. This includes managing key service level agreements, driving adoption of Microsoft 365 and SharePoint in line with organisational standards, and working closely with internal and external partners to ensure services meet business needs.The postholder will lead on procurement and contract management activities, provide strategic oversight of service performance, and contribute to wider Strategy and Transformation priorities. They will also line manage staff and support delivery through both direct and matrix management.This is a high-impact role requiring strong stakeholder engagement, the ability to operate at pace, and a focus on continuous improvement across business services and information management.

Job description

As Business Services and Information Manager for Forest Services (FS)

you will:

  • Be responsible for FS’ business service provision, ensuring that FS needs are clearly articulated, key performance indicators are agreed (with Forestry England or other providers of these services) and progress against them is regularly reviewed
  • Be responsible for FS’ implementation of and compliance with FC knowledge and information management policies
  • Lead on a number of key contracts for FS and be responsible for FS’ broader compliance with FC contract management policies

KEY WORK AREAS

You will:

  • Procure and manage major contracts and licence agreements with external suppliers for FS-specific requirements (e.g., support and hosting of FS bespoke IT
    systems)
  • Work with Forestry England procurement and other teams to procure and manage contracts and licence agreements with external suppliers for joint requirements (e.g., for corporate clothing)
  • Produce and manage FS Service Level Agreements for all business services provided by Forestry England, ensuring FS needs are clearly articulated and reflected
  • Lead knowledge and information management within FS, working closely with and contributing to the wider FC programme, overseeing effective implementation of all relevant policies in FS
  • Lead the ongoing adoption of Microsoft 365 across FS, and oversee the alignment of SharePoint with emerging FC-wide policy and guidance
  • Directly line manage one or more people at Higher Executive Officer and/ or Executive Officer level, coaching them to effective delivery
  • As a senior manager within the IT and business services team, make an active contribution to the team’s wider work

Person specification

Essential criteria

An experienced team and project manager you will also have:

  • Excellent people management skills (both directly and through matrix management)
  • Experience of leading procurement exercises
  • Experience of contract management
  • Experience of working with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of knowledge and information management
  • Proven ability to deliver at pace
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • A recognised project or contract management qualification (or equivalent experience).

This is a Fixed Term Appointment ending 30th September 2026, with possibility but no guarantee of extension or permanency.
