Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Business Support Assistant to join our Adult Services team at Milton Keynes City Council.

Our Adult Services team plays a key role in supporting local people to live safe, independent, and healthy lives. As part of a busy and dedicated service, you’ll provide essential administrative and customer support that helps our colleagues deliver vital services across the city. From first contact with residents to coordinating appointments and managing sensitive information, your work will directly support the people who rely on us every day.

You’ll be part of a large, well-organised council delivering over 200 services to local people and working alongside partners across the city to make Milton Keynes a better place to live. Our focus is on making a real difference, tackling inequalities, and supporting strong communities.

This role is ideal if you have experience in administration or are ready to build your career in a rewarding public service environment. You’ll need to be organised, confident communicating with a wide range of people, and able to manage competing priorities.

Site-Based role

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Role Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for Adult, Providers and Neighbourhood Services, responding to enquiries and directing people to the right support
  • Organise and manage sensitive and confidential information, ensuring accurate and secure record keeping
  • Provide day-to-day administrative support including managing contacts, updating systems, preparing case files, and responding to queries
  • Arrange and support meetings, including taking clear minutes and tracking actions
  • Complete financial tasks in line with council processes, including using electronic systems and maintaining accurate data
  • Work flexibly across teams, supporting colleagues and contributing to a high standard of customer service
Ideal Candidate
  • Level 3 Business Administration qualification or equivalent experience
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal, including note taking and report writing
  • Strong IT skills, with ability to use systems such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, or quickly learn new ones
  • Ability to organise workload, prioritise tasks, and work to deadlines
  • Professional, respectful, and collaborative approach to working with others
  • Adaptable and willing to support different teams to meet service needs
