Canvey Pride in Place Board Chair
Application closing date: 17:00 on Thursday 26th February 2026
A unique opportunity has arisen for a talented leader to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Canvey Island, as the Pride in Place Board launches a search for its new Chair.
The Canvey Pride in Place programme has secured £20 million of Government funding to invest in projects that will deliver long-term benefits for the Island. The independent Pride in Place Board has been established to provide strategic leadership, oversight and direction for the programme.
The Chair will lead the Board in delivering the agreed Investment Plan, working closely with partners, local communities and Castle Point Borough Council as the accountable body. The role will involve chairing Board meetings, championing the programme locally and nationally and ensuring that the investment delivers meaningful, lasting change for Canvey Island.
There is no single “type” of person being sought for the role. The Board is looking for someone who has a passion for the future of Canvey Island and the drive to lead a high-profile programme. Applicants may come from a wide range of backgrounds, including business, the voluntary and community sector, education, health, sport, arts and culture or social innovation.
Key to the role will be the ability to bring people together, maintain momentum and ensure that local voices and communities are central to decision-making. The Chair will also act as an ambassador for the Pride in Place programme, representing it with partners, stakeholders and the media.
The role is open to individuals who are independent of elected office; MPs and Councillors are not eligible to apply.
Speaking about the opportunity, Kate Willard OBE, Interim Chairman, said: “It has been an absolute honour to lead the Pride in Place Board up to this point, but it is now time to appoint a long-term Chair for the Board.
“Working alongside other passionate board members, this is a unique chance to help shape the next chapter for Canvey Island. We’re looking for someone who understands the Island, believes in its potential and is ready to provide strong, leadership to help turn that ambition into reality.”
