Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Care and Response Community Alarm Shift Manager to join our Adult Services team.

Our Community Alarm service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and provides an emergency call handling and response service to more than 5,000 residents.

You’ll lead the Control Room team during your shifts and help us provide safe, timely and respectful support. You’ll monitor changing needs, respond to complex situations and make well-informed decisions that support positive outcomes for people using the service. You’ll also work with colleagues, emergency services and partner organisations to coordinate the right response when people need help.

This is a rewarding role for an experienced supervisor who can remain calm, take ownership and support colleagues in a busy service.

The role involves working a range of shifts, including some evenings and weekends.

Role Responsibilities
  • Lead the Control Room team and maintain a reliable emergency answering and response service throughout your shift.
  • Make safe and timely decisions, assess risks and coordinate support from response colleagues, emergency services and other partners.
  • Monitor service quality and ensure work meets relevant legal requirements, council policies and Telecare Services Association standards.
  • Manage the rota, attendance, performance and development of colleagues while maintaining suitable cover for the service.
  • Coach colleagues, monitor calls, arrange training and help the team build the skills needed to support people with complex needs.
  • Review records, complaints, audits and service data to identify risks, resolve concerns and improve the service.
Ideal Candidate
  • A Level 4 National Vocational Qualification in Management or an equivalent qualification is essential, or you must be willing to complete one within the first six months of employment.
  • Proven supervisory experience will help you manage attendance, support performance and hold constructive conversations with colleagues.
  • Experience of an alarm receiving centre or social care setting will enable you to understand the needs of the service.
  • Strong customer service skills are needed to communicate clearly and respectfully with people who may be distressed or in crisis.
  • Calm and confident decision-making will allow you to assess risk, respond to unfamiliar situations and recognise when an issue must be escalated.
  • A dedicated, respectful and collaborative approach will help you coach colleagues, take ownership and work effectively with internal teams and external partners.

Driving Licence

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full manual UK driving licence.
