About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join our dedicated team at Horley Community Centre. This is a hands-on and varied role ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Working primarily Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 08:30am – 2:30pm, you’ll be responsible for a wide range of tasks – from preparing rooms for bookings and cleaning, to driving our minibus and assisting with general duties. A flexible attitude and a team spirit are essential.

Additional hours may be required occasionally for evening or weekend lettings or minibus trips, by prior agreement with the postholder.

Key Responsibilities
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and general upkeep across the Centre, garden, and car park.
• Set up rooms for Centre bookings, often with quick turnaround times.
• Prepare and clear refreshment trollies as requested by hirers.
• Reset rooms and Centre spaces for use the following day.
• Conduct regular testing and checks on fire and security systems.
• Act as a key holder: opening, closing, and securing the building when needed.
• Perform routine checks and ensure regular servicing, MOT, and cleaning of the Centre’s minibus.
• Drive the Centre minibus to transport older residents to and from the Centre and other scheduled destinations.
• Assist passengers in boarding and disembarking safely and ensure compliance with safety procedures, including seatbelt use.
• Report any incidents, concerns, or vehicle defects promptly to management.
• Carry out daily/weekly vehicle checks and maintain relevant records (mileage, fuel, cleanliness, etc.).
• Undertake basic DIY and decorating tasks around the Centre.
• Monitor and manage supplies, including ordering, receiving, and storing stock.
• Support the Centre Manager with general administrative and operational duties.
• Instruct hirers in the correct and safe use of Centre equipment.
• Provide a friendly and professional presence to ensure all users feel safe, welcome, and supported.
• Be available to work at other Community Centres on occasion, if required.

What We’re Looking For:
• A flexible, proactive, and practical individual with a strong work ethic.
• A clean, valid driving licence with D1 entitlement and MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) certification.
• Experience or confidence in cleaning, general maintenance, and light DIY tasks.
• A friendly and approachable attitude, especially when interacting with the public and Centre users.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• A genuine interest in helping to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming community space.

Staff Benefits
In exchange for your expertise, experience, and enthusiasm, we will offer support in continuing your personal and career development, in addition to providing a wide range of employment linked benefits.

We provide you with competitive annual leave and contribute 15% towards the LGPS pension scheme.
